The Hunger Games

I just finished reading the Hunger Games tonight! It’s the first book of The Hunger Games trilogy.

I started reading it out of curiosity, coz it’s gaining popularity fast among teens and young adults. I seldom read books, I only read books only when I’ve heard raves about it (eg. LOTR, Harry Potter, and as much as I hate saying this,Twilight). Since I’ve got lots of vacant time at work, decided to give it a try. It was actually a good read. :D

Here’s a brief overview of the book:

Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives.

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see.

Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love. — Scholastic

To be honest around 100 pages (1/3 of the book) was a drag for me, the part where they prepare the boys and girls, called tributes, for the game. I wasn’t interested much about how they pampered these kids as if they were contestants in beauty pageants, coz they’re gonna be dead anyway.

But… as a girl who enjoys watching action, gory and strategy films, the onset of the games part definitely had sent my interest skyrocketing! I was so curious, nervous and excited I sacrificed sleep just so I could continue reading, haha. XD Although I find it lacking in action and gore, I still enjoyed the story.

What I love the most about the book, are the characters. Katniss,  though I’m not very much endeared to her, at least she isn’t that annoying and whiny female characters most books probably have as main protagonist. Anyway, my favorites are Peeta, Gale, Rue and Cinna. The four of them are so likeable. At first I liked Gale, but now I have a huge crush on Peeta!

Right now they are currently filming The Hunger Games movie which will be finished March next year. I’m stoked!

It was my boyfriend Pax’s birthday last Tuesday and we had an advanced birthday date last Saturday in Makati. It was such a tiring but very fun day!

Pax was craving for BonChon so we headed there for lunch!  :boogie: We both had 2 spicy drumsticks meal and fries.

I feel like making you hungry by showing you a photo of my meal:

I love the spiciness of their chicken! I liked wings more than the drumsticks coz it has more skin and flavor than the latter.

Then we headed to Starbucks to get our favorite mocha frappe in venti before going to the cinema:

The drinks were positioned facing the camera on purpose coz I don’t want you to see the stupid fake name “Jojo” my boyfriend used!

Believe it or not, whenever we go to SB we only order mocha. Still afraid to experiment and get disappointed, besides I’m still not too tired with this one!

We watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 3D! The movie was good and really worth watching in 3D!

Unlike everyone else, I’m not too emotional about Harry Potter’s last film coz everything ended for me a long time ago when I finished reading the last page of the 7th book. HP books > HP movies. I like the movies, I just like it. But, huge book fan here, sorry. :P

Saw this military-inspired jacket in Glorietta!!  :dance: I’ve been searching for military-inspired jackets and this is the first time I came across one! Reminds me of SNSD’s Tell Me Your Wish outfits and My Chemical Romance’s Black Parade, which I’m both a fan of. ^^;

Pretty, noh?  Couldn’t help but buy it! It’s a little pricey for me, but hey, I rarely buy stuff. I sometimes think it’s too costume-y, but I love it and I should learn to stop caring to much about what others think if I want to dress good! (love my floral bedsheet btw)

It can’t be called a birthday celebration without cake! So for our last destination: Banapple!

I’ve been wanting to go to Banapple for a long time now! I’m so happy we finally got to try their food especially the cakes! Here’s what we ordered:

Banapple’s bestseller, Banoffee pie for my bunny!

Fudgymudgy pie for me! Both were actually very good!  You’ll like their cakes too if you have sweet tooth like me! ;) Huge servings at affordable prices, I recommend you try it!

I love cream-based pasta, so we also ordered fettuccine jacinta to make our tummies full:

Pasta was good. There was this distinct herby taste to it which I didn’t like. Not saying it was bad, it was actually good and boyfriend liked it, but I guess I ordered the wrong pasta.

Boyfriend and I enjoyed our date so freaking much! I think it was our happiest birthday celebration to date. I really had a great time! :boogie: Once again, happy 24th birthday to my boyfriend!
