Bought my Dad a brand new 22″ AOC LCD TV last weekend so he could enjoy watching movies more. Got it for only 8500 PHP (around $197+). :D

Since Samsung is expensive, I got AOC instead which is more affordable and is a trustworthy brand when it comes to monitors. The LCD TV can also be used as a pc monitor, so that’s a plus.

So far, so good. We watch 700mb dvdrip movies straight to the TV through a usb flashdisk. Didn’t know the TV could read avi files and load subtitles  as it wasn’t written in the specs. Coolio. The picture rendering is fine. And the audio is perfect and clear, I must say it surpassed my standards.

However, there are few things I don’t like about it. Some channels that used to be so clear in CRT TV are now blurry in the LCD TV. It’s either the TV signal has become weaker or the TV tuner is a failure. Another thing, some movies have weak audio so I tried adding speakers through the LCD TV’s 3.5mm socket but it didn’t help in boosting the volume. Hopefully, an RCA male to 3.5mm female cable could be a workaround for this.

Have you ever experienced any form of identity theft in real life? I’m glad to say in over 23 years of my life, I haven’t experienced something serious. Well, the most grave, if that could even be considered grave, would be getting my Yahoo account hacked (I believe) which led to my account bombarding my yahoo friends with spam links. Told you, nothing really serious. Its a good thing I switched to Gmail early. But I really hated the fact that my Yahoo account hacked, I’ve been using it for half a decade and couldn’t let it go.

There’s a lot of stealing going on in real life, and its no different online. People who give away their credit card information to purchase stuff online should just be as careful. I have a friend who refuses to use her credit card online, it sucks for him not being able to experience the wonders of online shopping.

Don’t be a killjoy like her. I’m sure there are ways to enjoy online shopping and not hold back on using your credit card. Refrain from going to suspicious websites that are hacked and contains malware, Google has this preventive measure by sending the user a warning first. Check out the credibility of the online shop before purchasing anything from it and giving them your precious credit card information. There’s this identity theft protection services being offered online as well (IdentityHawk for example). Last of all, do not save any of your account information in your computer - you should memorize it instead, or if you have a poor memory you may write it in a paper, just don’t be conspicuous and let others who might read it know its your precious information written in there.

Do you have other tips on how to prevent identity theft? Let me know!
